Achievement Unlocked: Alert Tech SMT is Now IPC-A-610 Class 3 Certified

| News

The hands-on training is complete. The inspections are passed — with flying colors, we might add. And, the certification is official. Alert Tech SMT is a fully IPC-A-610 Class 3 certified company.

Why is this a big deal? The IPC-A-610 is a set of criteria that measures reliability, performance and quality for printed circuit board assemblies. As a contract electronics manufacturing service provider, these are our three primary concerns. At Alert Tech SMT, we are guided by a quality commitment — and work toward a goal of 0% failure and 100% customer satisfaction.

What is the IPC-A-610 Certification?

The IPC-A-610 certification is the most widely used inspection standard in the electronics industry — and for good reason. Overseen by IPC International, it includes extensive criteria for PCB assemblies to help ensure rigorous quality standards and consistency. Certifications and criteria are determined by the nonprofit IPC International, the leading global authority on electronic assembly on a mission to “build better electronics” around the world.

IPC-A-610 Class Divisions

There are three class levels of certification. The higher technical specifications and reliability needed for a project or industry, the higher class of certification is recommended. For example, Class 1 certification may be sufficient for a TV remote control, while Class 2 may be more suitable for a laptop and Class 3 is best suited for advanced industries, including avionics, aerospace, industrial technology and military. Here is a quick breakdown of the three classes:

  • Class 1: General Electronic Products
For short lifecycle products with lower quality construction
  • Class 2: Dedicated Service Electronic Products
For long lifecycle products with good, long-lasting quality
  • Class 3: High Performance and Harsh Environment Electronic Products
For very long lifecycle products that require failsafe quality

The entire engineering and manufacturing teams at Alert Tech SMT have completed their Class 3 certifications. So, while we can help with all levels of projects, we are particularly equipped to support advanced, intricate and high-performance board assemblies.
